Subscribe to blogs and Twitter feeds, and Pinterest etc on topics that interest you

Work out how to read them

Then … blog about what you’ve found out.

I set aside time to do this every week: for me, Monday is social media day. I make myself publish 4 blogs entries every Monday. It takes about 2 hours.

This isn’t just for school work, it’s for hobbies too

Active listening:

Use of sound effects

Use of atmosphere

Use of music

Voice-overs

Mixing interviewees together

Pacing – how fast / slow is it? How long does the music, atmos, etc last? (time it)

Audio documentaries

With your own doco, I’m not expecting you to do much of this, however even just a little bit can be very effective. Makes it much more interesting to listen to, and can help support your story.

Putting in sound effects, music, etc, is important in video work too
