How can we build an understanding of the world independent of the human

act of measuring it?

Introduction

Remember how we last time did experiments, how did you measure human behavior? Goals of the experiments: to describe, explain, predict and control human behavior

Examples of types of measure: length, weight, duration and intensity

Is measuring important for us?Measurement of human behavior. Quantitative and qualitativeHow is measuring e.g. human behavior accurate as it is so case-by-case

How do we measure our understanding of this world?

Examples of real-life situations: IQ tests Exams in school In general our

knowledge is constantly being measured

Can logic be measured?

Page 4: Tok Presentation - Building knowledge without measuring it

Why do we measure our world?

Are measurements keys to knowledge and interaction?

Can we live without measurements?

We can't… or can we?

Can we know build understanding of our world without measuring it?

Different AOKS:

More about measuring our world

Can we measure everything using math? Are there other ways of measuring things

besides using math? Are there things that we can’t measure but

that are still important? What measurement would we use for faith,

hope, or love? Or can we measure them?

Back to our real-life situation

Could we have known without measuring?

Even though we can measure human behavior, to what extent is this accurate?

How about IQ tests?

- We could only acquire so-called qualitative data, such as things we know about people from experience, and our overall image of human behavior.

- Without measurement, our knowledge must be based on something else, such as experience, expectations and logical thinking
