The Arnolfini Portrait is an oil painting  dated 1434 by the  painter  Jan van Eyck . The painting is a small full-length double portrait, which is believed to represent the Italian merchant Giovanni di Nicolao Arnolfini  and possibly his pegnant wife. The ORANGES casually placed to the left are a sign of wealth; they were very expensive in Burgundy, and may have been one of the items dealt in by Arnolfini.
