The N favors a strong federal government while the S favors a weak federal government with most of the power going to the states and the people.
Economic Differences
The North had an industrial economy and did not need slaves. The South had an agricultural economy that depended on slaves to do the work.
Slavery
The North is ready to give up slavery. The South is not.
