• University FD– Once a year, Half –day

hands on type training on various topics

• 2003-2012 CDWS originally developed by McGill University, Canada has been held once a year at OU. Four day WS in English.

• 2013 3WS, two WS in Japanese and one in English

• 2014 5Ws, four in Japanese and one in English

• Consists of Lectures, group work and micro teaching

ICT supported collaborative learning classrooms Room A212 and A312 in CELAS building were renovated as ICT supported collaborative learning classrooms. This rooms support both lecture type education and collaborative group work education. Setting changes can be easily done during class hours. The room support spontaneous learning of students in usual classes.

Rooms consist of,・movable chairs, desks and white boards which support variety of group layout 。・Walls are made of white board which can also be used for projection screen. ・ four projectors with matrix switches with apple TV devices. This enables a lecturer’s or student’s iPad Screen can be projected easily.・ iPad tablet for students to use with various teaching and learning support applications

④未来の大学教員養成プログラム　　（ Future Faculty Program）　　 90hours（ 2 credit unit）→ 360hours（ 8credit unit) from 2015▶provided as inter graduate school lectureFrom 2014[University Course Design Ⅰ」（ 90hours： 2CU） is being taught for 20 students.

From 2015, three other courses are provided in order to make 360 hours (8CU) program that can be treated as sub program for graduate study. Teaching experience and project management are planned to be taught.

Those who finished this sub program will get a certificate that is necessary for applying STA(Senior teaching assistant), TF(Teaching fellow) or LA(Learning advisor).

• These activities suggests OER can be effective trends towards improving higher education.

Will OER movement improve education?

• Open sharing and open access give instructors a chance to review their own lectures and to learn on their peer’s lectures– Open Classroom, real-time streaming, lecture capture

• Promoting reuse of the educational contents – Collaborative work for revising teaching materials– Developing various versions of contents that covers divers needs of

learners.• Enables to invest bigger budget on a course that can be used

by teaching massive learners– MOOC model– Sending out good and unique educational resources to world. The

same contents can be used for university general education.

Effect of OCW/OER

• Started OpenCourseWare in May 2005• Joined edX in March 2014. • Providing various support for faculty to share their

educational materials and lectures– ＬＭＳ， lecture capture system, Mooc development

Osaka University’s movement

Top-down approach• Developing MOOC courses and publish them through global MOOC

platform (e.g. EdX) and reform university for global age. At the sametime, the course can be used for internal (on campus) education.

• University positively support Open Education Movement

Bottom-up approach• Encouraging faculty to make their learning materials open by

publishing them through OCW• Recording and archiving lectures for later use and review• More contents archived, less efforts to convert them into OCW or

MOOCs

MOOCs history

OER / MOOC Movement• Has potentials to improve quality, cost effectiveness and

efficiency of higher education • Bringing in a competition among universities who are planning to

do their business in the area where a needs for higher education is rapidly growing

Educational contents in Japanese or English?• Japanese contents can not be used globally sometimes• Japanese contents are useful for internal use and sharing

contents among Japanese Universities.• Sharing educational contents among Asian universities are

needed to develop contents with Asian cultural background.
