We chose to promote a supernatural horror in our media project as in our opinion this sub-genre is by far one of the scariest. This is because the fear of the unknown is something that the world have always been afraid of, and the idea of ghosts and spirits haunting people has been around for hundreds, if not thousands of years displaying how this terror will never be overcome. This is supported through the history of horror which shows how people’s fears of science, vampires and inhuman creatures have all eventually been overcome but the fear of supernatural beings has always remained. Aside from this, supernatural horrors are known for having a lasting effect on audience members, making them afraid of being alone and in the dark showing the sheer extent which these films can have on people.

One of our inspirational films which led us to our decision of choosing to create a supernatural horror is the film ‘The Conjuring’ as it is about a family staying at a house which is haunted due to previous events which happened there, which therefore ends up effecting their family negatively. It is also based on a true story. From this we decided to base our film on the idea of a haunted hotel/pub, and it linked well with a true story we knew of a haunted pub in England, where the original owner tortured guests. From hearing this story and seeing the effect which supernatural horrors have on audiences we felt this this would be an ideal genre to choose.

ANTAGONIST

• Our antagonist will probably be shown through a supernatural force or spirit, though it may be wrecking havoc through communicating with an individual. This is similar to the plot in ‘The Conjuring’ as although the supernatural force is in some senses the antagonist, it also uses particular characters to create scares, which is a well known but still terrifying idea we would want to re-create in our film.
