As our AS Media group has not

come across the filmmaking

process previously, I trust that

it is best to examine its principles including camera

movements, camera angles,

codes and conventions of the

genre we have chosen, and, of

course SOUND. I believe that

the SOUND QUALITY contributes as one of the most

fundamental aspects of filmmaking therefore that is

what I will be addressing within

my PowerPoint presentation.

DIEGETIC SOUND ‘’ Sound whose source is visible on the screen or whose source is implied to be present by the action of the film: voices of characters. sounds made by objects in the story. music represented as coming from instruments in the story space ’’

None-Diegetic (commentary) Sound

‘’Sound whose source is neither visible on the screen nor has been implied to be present in the action: ’’

An example of this includes the sound effects added in order to achieve a dramatic effect, mood music or narrator’s commentary.

SOUND SOURCE

Synchronous oundA sound that is matched by the actions and movements on of the character on the screen. E.g. Playing the piano.

Nonsimultaneous sound Nonsimultaneous sound is a manipulation of the story order. The film can give its audience information possibly regarding previous story events without necessarily showing them.

• Sound Flashback – On the screen the audience may se a character perusing present events while they hear another characters voice from earlier in the film.

• Image flash-forward – Imagine from the future while the sound is in the present.

Simultaneous Sound

When sound and mages take place at the same time this is called simultaneous sound.

• Image Flashback: Image from the pact while the sound occurs in the present. This technique can be common in documentaries.• Sound Flash-forward:Image from the present while the sound occurs in the future.

Post-synchronization dubbingPost synchronization search for term. The opposite of direct sound. The process of adding sound to a sequence during the post production phase: sound effects, dubbing, or music. Previous definition Point-of-view. ‘’

Off-screen SoundThis term is used to describe the sound assumed to be within the scene while the sound remains offs off-screen while the action takes place at the same time.

Lavalier (Tieclip) Microphones – worn on clothes. This a good way to record voices, only if you don’t mind the actors attached to the camera by a cable.

Rode Lavalier – they are more expensive then just normal Lavalier Microphones, however they produce a better quality of sound and they are designed to be connected to and IPhone or any other smartphone.

Directional (Supercardioid) Microphones

They are mainly used to pick up sound from the front, cutting out sound from all other directions.

Rode NTG-2 can be held above the action or on an extended boom pole. It is commonly used for drama scenes and manages to keep the noise low when you are using long cables.The Rode VideoMic Pro – It is designed to be mounted onto the camera It also has its own built in elastic suspension system in order block any of the handling noises. You can use it indoors as well as outdoors.
