“Oh My Blog!” What to Avoid
“Oh My Blog!” What to Avoid
Successful business blogs have the kind of atmosphere you'd want in a networking event. They're opportunities for you to talk about your product and your industry, but also to listen and interact.
Reasons Blogs Fail:
Authors insist on moderating comments before publishing them. Authors don't allow commenters to identify themselves with a
url. Authors don't respond to comments or participate in discussions
taking place in the comments. Authors don't learn from or listen to commenters.

Focus Groups Students: Communicating online is
like second nature to an increasingly tech-savvy generation
Parents: Safety, “Helicopter Parents” and the importance of inter-communication
Universities & Program Providers: Paper evaluations are inefficient, straggling student evaluation completion rates, difficult to gauge fit of programs that no students have previously attended
Interactivity + User-Generated Feedback = Web 2.0 Solution

Group Scenarios Group Scenarios1. You have a new study abroad program or new degree program. Which social media services could you use to get the word and how?
2. You process/sign I-20s and need to alert your international students that you will be away the week before winter break.
3. An emergency situation requires that you contact all 100+ students on your program in London. Phone lines are overloaded, so calling each student isn't effective.
4. A helicopter parent of a prospective or current student wants to know what types of activities are available with regards to program orientation and student activities once the program starts. Where can they find more information than what's on your website?
5. Your Dean of International Programs needs to discuss a sensitive student situation with you, the student advisor from your partner school in Brazil and a Brazilian student. The Dean is in Japan and you are in the US. The Brazilian student is in quarantine at a local hospital and only has access to a landline. You are a small school, your phone system is ancient and can barely handle person to person calls.
6. You are planning a pre-departure meeting for students, and you have one week to collect testimonials and media from students who are currently abroad to provide up-to date information to prospective students.
