sentimental comedy. Goldsmith and Sheridan attempted a revival of the restoration comedy of manners without its coarseness and immorality, and they both succeeded because of their theatrical talents.

Sentimental comedy is related to our emotions. It appeals especially to our fallings of sorrow, pity, and compassionate sympathy. Sometimes in comedy we find mannerlessness, vulgarity and profanity.
