Honor

Unknown history of scouting

After reading this story you will see that there is much more to the phrase Scout's Honor than you ever thought.

On my honor I promise that I will do my best:To do my duty to God and my Country

To help other people at all times and

To obey the Scout Law.

Polish Scouting started in 1910 in three different branches, in three occupied territories.

After Poland regained its independence they merged into one, ZHP.

(Polish Scouting and Guiding Association)

Soon, Polish Scouts fought in all the conflicts Poland was engaged in around this time:

Greater Poland Uprising

Polish-Bolshevik War

Silesian Uprisings

and Polish-Ukrainian War.

After the Invasion of Poland in 1939 by Nazi Germany, and two weeks later the Soviet Union, Nazis executed many Scouts and Guides.

In 1940, the Soviets executed most of the Boy Scouts held at Ostashkov prison.

The wartime Scouts evolved into the paramilitary "Gray Ranks", cooperating with the Polish resistance, Home Army.

During the Warsaw Uprising the Grey Ranks units participated in the fighting and proved to be among the most effective combat units.

The Girl Guides formed auxiliary units working as nurses, liaisons and munition carriers.

Younger Scouts served as:scouts,

couriers,

and often fought as well.

Their contribution was commemorated by the statue, of Little Insurgent modeled after a young fighter who went by the pseudonym of Antek, who was killed August 8, 1944 at the age of 13.

On my honor I promise that I will do my best:To do my duty to God and my Country...
