Huawei Scholarships for Indian Students

The Huawei Maitree Scholarship Programme for academic year 2013 is open for application to aid Indian

students who want to pursue higher studies in China. The scholarship amount of 5,000 dollars aims at

covering the student's tuition fee and living expenses.

The transnational educational initiative was started in 2011 by the telecommunications giant as a part of

its corporate social responsibility programme. It fosters the spirit of innovation and scholarship in every

discipline to bring about a better understanding, appreciation and friendship between youngsters of

India and China.

Under the programme, 20 scholarships are provided every year to the selected Indian students for

higher studies in credible and reputed institutions of China – preferably in emerging areas of science and

technology, culture, social studies and development related programmes.

Huawei believes that the scholarship will help under-graduate and post-graduate students dedicate

themselves to the pursuit of excellence and be instrumental in shaping their careers.

Apart from the educational curriculum, the scholarship facilitates exchange of knowledge between

students from entirely different societies by providing them with invaluable opportunity to understand

and experience another culture.

The duration of scholarship is one year which is renewable for every new academic session till the

completion of course. For renewal of scholarship, the recipient is required to satisfy the criteria of 80

The student should have earned a cumulative grade point average of 3.2 (80 per cent) or above during

previous year of study at a university. A copy of the mark sheet (attested by the university) needs to be

submitted as a proof.

The last date for submitting the documents and applying for the scholarship is July 10. The results will be

announced on July 17.

The candidate must have independently gained admission to a reputed university/college/institution in

China at the time of applying for the scholarship.

Candidates should submit the application online, giving complete and accurate details about school and

university education, professional experience (if any) and a statement of purpose. A candidate should

provide references from two persons of repute – preferably academicians and teachers.

All applications will be reviewed by a selection panel chosen internally. Applicants who are short-listed

will face an interview. Final selection will be based on the applicant’s successful performance in both

these stages.
