What is the Texas STaR Chart?

School Technology and Readiness Chart

A Teacher Tool for Planning and Self-Assessing alignment with the  Long-Range Plan for Technology, 2006-2020.

The STaR chart consists of four sections: Teaching & Learning, Educator Preparation & Development, Leadership, Administration, & Instructional Support, and Infrastructure for Technology

What is the Long-Range Technology Plan for 2006-2020.

Three Phase’sI. 2006 – 2010:

Continue to provide quality instructional materials, aligned to content standards, and delivered in print and digital formats to meet the needs of all students

Continue to refine and align curriculum content standards to reflect current research and meet the needs of the 21st Century workplace and higher education

Provide equitable access to technology tools for students and teachers, such as student and teacher workstations, productivity tools, online resources, interactive whiteboards, projection systems, and printers

Provide on-going quality professional development for educators to ensure proficiency in using technology tools to personalize instruction and in using data effectively to inform instructional practice

Provide opportunities for teachers to implement new strategies for enhancing teaching an learning through the use of quality instructional resources and technology tools

Provide adequate connectivity in schools and classrooms to ensure effective use of technology resources

Provide necessary technical support to ensure availability and reliability of technology resources

II. 2011 – 2015: To be developed upon evaluation of Phase I.

III. 2016 – 2020: To be developed upon evaluation of Phase II.

Teaching & Learning:

The teacher serves as facilitator, mentor, and co-learner. Students have on-demand access to all appropriate technologies to complete activities that have been seamlessly integrated into all core content areas. All Technology Applications TEKS are met K-8; high school campuses offer all Technology Applications courses and teach at least 4 courses.

Educator Preparation & Development:

There are regular technology-supported learner-centered projects. There is vertical alignment of Technology Applications TEKS and anytime, anywhere use of online resources. Administrators ensure integration of appropriate technology. 100% of educators meet SBEC standards. 30% or more of budget allocated for professional development.

Leadership, Administration, & Instructional Support:

Campus plan focused on student success, supported by board and administration. There is one technical support to 350computers. Campus instructional support staff. Technology Allotment, e-Rate, state and federal competitive grants and local funding are available.

Infrastructure for Technology:

There is on-demand access for every student, direct connectivity available in all rooms and web-based resources in multiple rooms. All rooms are connected to WAN. They are fully equipped with appropriate technology.
