Purdue University Teams with PTC® To Advance the Next Generation of PLM Professionals PURDUE UNIVERSITY

Training workers on the latest technologies can help improve a company’s performance and its bottom line. The Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) Center at Purdue University has been helping companies improve performance since it was founded in 2002.

Led by Professor Nathan Hartman from Purdue’s College of Technology, the PLM Center focuses on offering the most up-to-date education opportunities and research to help industry evolve with technology, including technology from PTC.

As technology has evolved, it has brought both challenges and opportunities to students and professionals. These individuals must now get ahead of—not just keep up with—the rapid changes in Product Lifecycle Management (PLM), resulting in a strong need for local training.

The center brings together academia and industry to advance PLM through research, education, and training. The PLM curriculum provides students—including undergraduates, graduates, and professionals—with hands-on training on PTC Windchill®, the leading PLM solution with more than 1.1 million users worldwide. The university’s contributions to local industry are important, especially since Indiana is home to Fortune 500 leaders and well-known PTC customers.

With the success of the PLM Center, Purdue University has expanded its footprint within PLM professional education. Purdue has joined PTC and earned the distinction as a PTC University Authorized Training Partner (ATP). As an ATP, Purdue University’s PLM-centric professional development program leverages the PTC University eLearning platform to build their own courses on model-based definition, product data, and configuration management—all based on PTC solutions. The courses offered to students as part of Purdue University’s ATP affiliation also include PTC University’s solution based curriculum for engineering professionals.

Taking its commitment to education and professional development further, Purdue University has also formed IN-MaC, Indiana’s next generation manufacturing competitiveness center. Working with Ivy Tech Community College, Vincennes University, the state of Indiana, and industry, IN-MaC is Purdue University’s response to the economic challenges facing Indiana and the United States. One focal area for IN-MaC is workforce education to support and train both the incumbent workforce and the next generation of manufacturing employees. One of the key ways that IN-MaC achieves its goals is through PTC’s tools and training.

“PTC plays a critical role in Purdue University’s approach to educating the next generation as well as fostering professional development for the incumbent workforce,” says Nathan Hartman, director of the PLM Center at Purdue University. “Through the center, PTC University Authorized Training Partner Program, and IN-MaC, we’re able to align academia, business, and government to influence and drive transformation on both a local and global level.”
