The most revolutionary change was that students sought an extension of the work experience element of courses. It would seem that work experience as an integral part of an undergraduate course offers opportunity for advancing skills and knowledge (Holmes & Miller, 2000). The students in this survey emphasised the value of practical work experience and knowledge of the work place that they had gained on placements. Most of the negative perceptions related to organisational problems and the nature of the work either being too demanding or too mundane. Overall, benefits seemed to far outweigh drawbacks.
