The Valle del Cauca shield takes the French form in honor of the French revolution that inspired the Independence.The shield is divided in two quarters, where the upper one shows a green valley with its river, Blue Mountains in the background, two palm trees and five golden cities.

The Valle del Cauca flag is the principle official symbol of the Colombian Department of Valle del Cauca and was adopted on July 26 of 1811.

Description:It consists of two horizontal stripes of equal size and of blue and white, framed by a silver edge. According to the current interpretation, their colors mean:• Celeste: Openness, honesty, sincerity and loyalty.• White: peace, beauty and purity• Silver: integrity, obedience and innocence

Valle del Cauca, is a department of Colombia. It is in the western side of the country, facing the Pacific Ocean. It is considered one of the most important departments in the Republic of Colombia. Itscapital is Santiago de Cali.

The department of Valle del Cauca is located in the western part of the country. It borders the departments of Risaralda and Quindío to the north, Cauca to the south, Tolima, and Chocó and the Pacific Ocean to the west.

Besides Cali such cities as Buenaventura, Cartago and Tuluahave great economic, political, social and cultural influence on the department's life. Valle del Cauca has the largest number of independent towns with over 100,000 inhabitants in the country, counting six within its borders.

The simple way of dividing the regions of valle del cauca is as follows: Region flat or physical Valley, Highlands, coastal Region or the Pacific coast.

Average temperature of the region varies from 23 to 24 ° C, which corresponds to the warm thermal floor. The relative humidity varies in the range 65-75%. It is a tropical region with two rainy and two dry year.

The hydrographic network of the Valle del cauca is composed of numerous currents formed in two aspects, the Pacific and Magdalena, through the Cauca River. Among the main bodies of water are Rio Cauca, Rio Fraile, Rio Jamundi.

The Department is a place of numerous national parks, of which the Farallones de Cali, the Bay of Malaga and Malpelo Island are located entirely within their territory. In addition, share areas of other national parks with more departments. These are: Parque nacional natural Las Hermosas, con Tolima - Parque nacional natural Nevado del Huila, con Huila, Tolima y Cauca - Parque nacional natural Tatamá, con Risaralda.

Valle del Cauca gastronomythe principal food are: theshampoos, mazato, Sancocho de Gallina, atollado rice, cholado, thechontaduro, Lulada, thecheese bread, theblancmange, cut sweet, thepandeyuca, the sleeve, themarranitas, the aborrajados, gelatin leg, the Arepa valluna, among many otherdelights or food.

Among the most outstanding artists of the Valle del Cauca are the painter Omar Rayo, Andrés Caicedo, Enrique Buenaventura, Gustavo Álvarez Gardeazábal, novelist and poet Jorge Isaacs, the writer Eustaquio Palacios, IsaiasGamboa, Jotamario Arbeláez, Antonio Maria Valencia, Jairo Varela, and the brothers Hernando, Lucy Tejada and Pedro Morales Pino.
