Demographic data
The most recent data collected in the National Census of Population and Housing (Narodowy Spis Powszechny) conducted in 2011 indicate that there are 4.7 million disabled people in PolandIt means that disabled people constitute 12.2% of population in Polandthere were more than 3.1 million persons (3,133,200) with a disability certificate. Among the people of working age with a disability certificate in 2014 the structure was as follows: 22.0% with severe disability, 45.0% with moderate disability, 33.0% with minor disability.
Education
According to the Central Statistical Office (GUS) in school year 2013/2014 there were 60,100 disabled students in primary schools (23,278 in specialist primary schools),48,300 in lower secondary schools (25,800 in specialist lower secondary schools) and 15,100 in vocational schools and 100 in specialist secondary schools and 3,200 students in secondary schools.
Life conditions
The economic and social situation of disabled people is linked to their situation in the labour market.The low economic activity of disabled people aged 16 and more is reflected in the structure of this population according to the sources of income. In 2014 the most common sources of income were disability pension 37.3% The unemployment benefits, pre-retirement pensions and other social benefits were the sources of income for 14.7% of disabled people. Work was the main source of income for almost 15.1% of disabled people aged 16 in 2014 with 11.5% being employed. Other sources of income were indicated by 1.3% of disabled people in that age and 4.7% of disabled people were dependent on the help of others
Labour market
The results of labour force survey (BAEL) indicate that the situation of disabled people in the labour market has improved substantially in recent years. This improvement is certainly related to the financial support received by the entrepreneurs who decided to employ a disabled person.

How does it look in Bytom?
The Special Vocational School establishes contact with future employers first by checking if the employer has the licence which let them to train juvenile students the next step are the negotiations.Employers engaged in such cooperation are keeping the distance because one of the feature of the special needs students is lack of discipline what is very unwelcome trait which stands in the way to become a good apprentice and next a good worker.Only a slight percentage of students start the work at the same place where they took the training.Bakers and confectioneries (3 entrepreneurs) are among those companies which cooperate with Special Education Vocational School

Day Room/ Therapy Room
The Day Room was opened in 1997 and today it assists up to 10 young people.
To raise funds and obtain resources for their activities Association organizes charities events, receive funding from National Fund for the Rehabilitation of Disabled People (PFRON), from donations, by selling charity gift tokens and crafts hand-made by our pupils.
The main aim of the therapy units is to create and provide various activities to prepare children for their next, more difficult, step - Therapy Classes & Workshop.
The classes run every day from 7 AM until 3 PM

Children and young adults are members of artwork or entertainment groups such as Glass Dance Team and Gamma Music Band,
They visit the theatre, cinema and museums and also have an annual excursion.
Workshops
Therapy Classes & Workshop has been established in 2000. It is open daily from 7AM till 3PM. Now there are 70 attendees in 14 groups. This project is financed by PFRON and local government.
The main purpose is to help them lead a full life in the community, to improve their working skills, to improve their mobility and develop their psycho-motor activity by a wide range of different activities that stimulates an individuals creativity.
There is also An Integration club (a place where people with special needs are able to spend their free time in an active and creative way)
