• All the junior classes have a garden box to look after.

• We have to make sure we take care of the plants we are growing.

• Room 8 had to decide what we were going to plant in our garden box.

• We had a sharing time and came up with some ideas.

• Some of our ideas included –

• Strawberries• Apples• Oranges• Roses• Flowers• Beans• …and many more.

• We decided to plant vegetables and flowers at the beginning of the year.

• We chose vegetables, so we could eat or cook something; and flowers, so our garden box would look beautiful.

Taking careTaking care

• We all had turns to take care of the garden box.

• We did weeding, so the plants could get all the nutrients from the soil; and watering the plants so they would grow big.

HarvestHarvest

• After a couple of months, it was time to harvest the vegetables. They were a bit overgrown.

• The daisies bloomed and grew really big.

• Our flowers grew really big too.

• We were able to try some fresh lettuce leaves from our garden.

• The beetroot had to be put in the compost heap though, it was too big!

• After clearing out the garden box, we had no plants and we had to decide what we were going to have for our new crop.

• After a vote we decided that we would have sunflowers. We all love sunflowers!

• Mrs Thompson bought some dwarf sunflower seeds and we reused some plastic jelly containers to sow our seeds. We all had our own sunflower to take care of.

• We wrote down a list of things we have to do to take care of our sunflowers.

• We had to water our seeds and put them in the sunlight to grow.

• When they grew into seedlings we put them carefully in our garden box.

• Then we waited for them to grow..

• We made sure to water them when they needed a drink.

• About six weeks later we had dwarf sunflowers growing in our garden box.

• Some of us were lucky to take one home.

• The new classrooms were being built and our garden box was behind bars.

• We cared for our environment until our garden box was freed.

• We moved our garden box in front of Room 8.

• This year Mrs Karan donated some succulents and Mrs Thompson donated a gardenia plant.

• We have to remember to take care of our garden box, by watering the plants and making sure to clear out the weeds if they grow.

• We found out that we have to do lots to take care of our garden box.

• We have to make sure we all help out together, when we are watering the plants and pulling out weeds.

• It is exciting to be able to eat food you grow yourself.

• Who knows what will be planted next year?
