What NB Certification Is…and Isn’t

Can… … be funded through state programs or grants… result in a financial supplement

Is… … a demonstration of the impact of your teaching on student achievement… a process that consists of a portfolio and series of assessments… a credential that can trump state requirements for certification… represents an investment of about $2800

Isn’t… … equivalent to an advanced degree… being highly qualified… a guarantee of employment protection

Remember that your community connections in your Documented Accomplishments must be within the last year

Documented Accomplishments are a good part of the portfolio to look at first and then revisit last. You will see them through the lens of “student achievement” after writing the other entries.

*** You must have release forms on file from all students and any adults in the videos***

Something else to think about….

Take One! allows to start the National Board Process with a single portfolio entry – Entry 2. This might be a good “first step” for those considering the process.

With Take One!, you can “bank” the scores and complete the rest of the portfolio the next year.
