Initial Planning Ideas
Possible Songs
Disconnected – 5 Seconds of Summer
Mirrors – Justin Timberlake
You Need Me, I Don’t Need You – Ed Sheeran
Stereo Hearts – Gym Class Heroes ft. Adam Levine
I Knew You Were Trouble – Taylor Swift
Voices – Disclosure ft. Sasha Keable
Look Right Through – Storm Queen
You Need Me, I Don’t Need You
• Narrative & Performance• Capture the ‘laid back’ feel of the genre, artist and song• Performance: ‘busking’ style of performance. E.g. Park• Narrative: Relating to the lyrics – fast paced, related to
performance (e.g. people think that I’m bound to blow up, I’ve done around about 1000 shows but, I haven’t got a house plus I live on the couch ---- I’m selling CDs from my rucksack aiming for the papers, selling CDs from my rucksack aiming for the majors)
Ed Sheeran
Disconnected
• Narrative (and possibly performance)• Theme of song – when the two people are together they shut of
their phones etc and ‘become disconnected’.• Narrative – shots of people on phone calls, texting, social
networking etc. Between these have several recurring characters (e.g. two friends on phones instead of talking, person not giving their dog attention – too busy on the phone, couple sitting together texting)
• By the end of the video, the recurring characters begin to notice each other and spend time with each other rather than with other people via texting etc.
• Performance – would suit the genre, as a ‘punk rock/pop’ band, music videos conventionally have a performance element to the video.
5 Seconds of Summer
Mirrors
• Narrative & Performance• Lip Syncing performer – one location, shots of performer
interspersed in the main narrative• Narrative – Several characters (approx. 4) each looking at
themselves in the mirror and seeing their flaws/imperfections. Possibly each person has one main flaw that they see which is an ‘issue’ focused on in their part of the video.
Justin Timberlake
Other Ideas
Look Right Through – Storm Queen• Narrative – Two main characters, one elaborately weird and
one slightly awkward looking. Cut between both walking, but no one noticing them. Ends with them both finding each other.
Stereo Hearts – Gym Class Heroes ft. Adam Levine• Narrative & Performance - Using the comparison to the
relationship with a person and an old vinyl record as described in the song (e.g. “if I was just another dusty record on the shelf, would you blow me off and play me like everybody else?”)
