Childhood and Education:
Martin Luther King, Jr. , was born in January 15, 1929
His birth place is Atlanta, Georgia
His name was changed to Martin Luther king from Michael Luther king
graduated from high school when he was only 15 years old
graduated in 1948 with a degree in Sociology
Obtained Bachelor’s degree in Divinity
Ph. D. From Boston College
In Boston, he met Coretta Scott and married her in 1953
Inequalities and injustice:
Martin had to see the inequality, injustice and racial tension that was in America
Segregation between Blacks and Whites
Buses were segregated
Segregation between Blacks and Whites
Schools were segregated
Segregation between Blacks and Whites
Neighborhoods were segregated
Water Fountains were segregated.
Becoming a Civil Rights leader, 1955 • became co-pastor of Dexter
Avenue Baptist Church
• 42-year-old Rosa Parks was arrested for refusing to give her seat on a Montgomery bus to a white man
• which started the Montgomery Bus Boycott.
Martin Luther King's problem faced • Arrested twenty times• Assaulted 4 times.
King was arrested and jailed. King's house bombed

Martin Luther King Jr. was a transformational leader
Developing the vision starts with the
development of a vision,
a view of the future
to excite and convert potential followers
Selling the vision constantly sell the vision
careful in creating trust
to maintain personal integrity
Finding the way forwards the direction will always be known
finding the way forward can be an ongoing process of course correction
Leading the charge to remain up-front and central during the action
always visible and will stand up to be counted
make continued efforts to motivate and rally their followers,
constantly doing the rounds, listening, soothing and enthusing.

• Taught his followers to possess non-violent tactics
• following the principles of Gandhi
Steps towards SuccessInspiring a Shared Vision:
followed Mahatma Gandhi’s non-violent strategy for social change
to enlist others in his vision, he founded the SCLC to push a civil rights change.
“I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed, We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal”

Enabling Others to Act: he was promoting the action of a nation
founding and leading the SCLC
supporting striking sanitation workers.
King would put himself in harms way to get other people involved.
he led multiple demonstrations which helped people who wanted change together
Encouraging the Heart: Martin Luther King Jr. managed to travel over six million miles and he gave more than 2,500 speeches.
During his lifetime, Martin Luther King Jr. wrote five books and numerous articles .
Man of the Year and Nobel Peace Prize, 1964
Dr. King was named Time Magazine’s Man of the Year in 1964
honored as the recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize, becoming the youngest to receive it at the age of 35.
Dr. King gave the whole amount of the prize money to aid wih the Civil Rights movement.
The Dream Come True

Assassination,1968 As he walked out on to the
balcony of his hotel, a single gun shot rang out.
Martin had been struck down by an assassin’s bullet.
Finally He was a great leader.
He brought people together and gave hope to a nation.
He was a great man with superior leadership abilities that helped to make a positive change in the United States
