Ugrasen ki baoli.It is among a few of its type in Delhi.It is situated on Hailey road, near Connaught

place.It is believed that it is built during

mahabharat epic era.From an structural viewpoint this phase well

was probably renewed during the Tughlaq interval.

ARCHITECTUREo Its 60 meter long and 15 meter wide step well.

o Step well consist of three levels, Each level is lined with arched niches on both sides.

o Some parts of the well, with 103 steps, were permanently immersed in water.

o Stone walls of the well are stark yet beautiful.

It is an important colonial building related to the 1857 uprising in DelhiA monument to those killed on British side during the India’s rebellion of 1857.It is situated in front of Old Telegraph

Building, Kashmiri Gate.Indian government renamed the monument

“Ajitgarh”.

HISTORYo After the mutiny of 1857,British victors

decided to construct a memorial to fallen.

o It receives much public criticism on its completion.

o When it built it was part of open marshy landscape that was the northern ridge.

ARCHITECTUREo It is built in high Victorian Gothic style in red

sandstone.

o It has four tiers from an octagonal base.

o The lowest tier consist of seven faces containing memorials plaques and one face holding the stairs to the upper tiers.

o The tower is circular from inside with staircase.

Khooni Darwaza

Lal Darwaza.Khooni Darwaza is situated at Bahadur Shah

Zafar Marg ,Delhi.It is one of the 13 surviving Gates in Delhi.HISTORY

o This Gate earned its name after the three Princes of the Mughal Dynasty- Bahadur Shah Zafar’s sons.

o On September 22,1857 these Princes were shot by

 British Soldier, Captain William Hudson during the Indian Rebellion.

o At this Gate Jahangir killed the Abdul Rahim Khan-E-Khana.o Aurangzeb killed his elder brother Dara

Shikoh and had his head displayed at the gate.o In 1739 this gate is Bloodshed when Nadir

Shah of persia had ransacked Delhi.

ARCHITECTUREo Khooni Darwaza is 15.5m tall.o It is constructed by Quartzite Stone.o It has different level that reached by three stair

case.Today Khooni Darwaza is protected

monument under the Archaeological Survey of India.

In December 2002, the monument was sealed to the general public.

Flagstaff Tower

Flagstaff Tower is one-room, castellated tower, built around 1828 as a signal tower.

It is located at Kamla Nehru Ridge, Delhi.It was built by the British Indian Army,

and was used as a signal tower.Before 1910, the area where the tower

was built was the highest point on the ridge.

HISTORYo Flagstaff Tower played an important role

during the Indian Rebellion of 1857.o Among for their defense the besieged had two

light field guns, which stood outside the tower.

o The tower had been built by britishers to commemorate the site where British women and children gathered during the First War of Indian Independence.

ARCHITECTUREo It had built with the albumen print, 254 x 304 mm

o It is hard to believe that it’s fenced-in park, with its odd combination of leafy greenery and tarred pathways.

o It’s Decorative features include mouldings, battlements, and arched niches.  Access is through a winding central staircase.

It is an imposing stone and masonry building, though lacking the splendid ornamentation to be seen in the tomb of his master, Iltutmish.

The tomb is surrounded by the ruins of an extensive late-medieval settlement and it offers, from certain angles, a remarkable view of the Qutub Minar.

To the east of Balban's tomb, lies a ruined rectangular structure said to be the grave of Khan Shahid, Balban's son, whose original name was Muhammad, who died fighting against the Mongols near Multan in 1285.

• ARCHITECTURE

o The Tomb of Ghiyas ud din Bal ban is located in Mehrauli , New Delhi

o The Tomb is built in ca 1287 CE, in rubble masonry.

o The Tomb of Bal ban was discovered in the mid-twentith century.

o Today the Bal ban's tomb has we know in Mehrauli Archaeological Park.
