Sports DayWow!  Wow!  Wow! , This is the first ever sports day Which patricks won! We had Javelin throwing, bean bag throwing, hurdle racing, skipping rope, running race and tug of war~long jump and free time in which we played either skipping or stuck in the mud. We knew that for the team points the St patricks was the 1st, Andrew the 2nd, goerges the 3rd and David the 4th (final decision) if you want to win next year, work harder and co-operate with your team mates.    Sport description: Javelin, Bean bag, hurdle, skipping rope, running and tug of war. Javelin: a Javelin is a light spear made out of a sharp spear head and a long wood stick. It is used for wars in the olden days. But in our school, we use small Vortex. Bean bag: a bean bag is a sealed small bag with some dried beans or PVC pellets. It is used for playing games and throwing. It can also be a bean bag chair. Hurdle: hurdle is basically a thing that you run over, or jump. Hurdles are used for races and challenges. Skipping rope: skipping rope is a game that you play in primary school. It is basically played by children and teenagers.  The rope is swung over you head and feet. You jump when the rope gets to you feet. Running: running it means that you allow your feet to move quickly. It is simply defined in athletic terms. It is almost like fast walking but it is faster than that Tug of war: It is a sport that splits into two teams. You pull a rope and if A team pulls it to their side, A team wins. If B team pulls it to their side, B team wins.

CNY celebrationsChinese New Year starts with the New Moon on the first day of the new year and ends on the full moon 15 days later. The 15th day of the new year is called the Lantern Festival, which is celebrated at night with lantern displays and children carrying lanterns in a parade.  The Chinese calendar is based on a combination of lunar and solar movements. The lunar cycle is about 29.5 days. In order to "catch up" with the solar calendar the Chinese insert an extra month once every few years (seven years out of a 19-yearcycle). This is the same as adding an extra day on leap year. This is why, according to the solar calendar, the Chinese New Year falls on a different date each year. New Year's Eve and New Year's Day are celebrated as a family affair, a time of reunion and thanksgiving. The celebration was traditionally highlighted with a religious ceremony given in honor of Heaven and Earth, the gods of the household and the family ancestors.

The sacrifice to the ancestors, the most vital of all the rituals, united the living members with those who had passed away. Departed relatives are remembered with great respect because they were responsible for laying the foundations for the fortune and glory of the family.  The presence of the ancestors is acknowledged on New Year's Eve with a dinner arranged for them at the family banquet table. The spirits of the ancestors, together with the living, celebrate the onset of the New Year as one great community and honors the past and present generations. The communal feast called "surrounding the stove" or weilu. It symbolizes family unity. By Itisha  http://education2.uvic.ca/Faculty/mroth/438/CHINA/chinese_new_year.html

Memories of Perth Street

KJS Perth Street is being demolished, as they will be building a taller and bigger building. When they are demolishing and building a new school KJS Perth Street students will be going to an unused school in Hung Ham. Some memories about Perth Street are that it is one of the oldest ESF schools in HK and is one of the simplest designed schools in ESF. KJS opened in 1902 and used to be called Kowloon British School.  Did you know that KJS used to be joined with 1-6 together but got separated. KJS is taking the risk again as they are going to build the school again. Some bad things are that KGV might suffer with the noise since they are right next to KJS. By Ashwin

“The car's so stuffy!” My brother Max whined. I rolled my eyes, Max was so spoilt.“Would you put a sock in it Max, I'm trying to read.” I hollered.Max stuck a face at me; it took me all my strength to stop myself from punching him in the face.I couldn't get in trouble, at least not before my holiday started. You see, Dad is taking us on a first- class trip to New York, and if I don't fight with my brother, 20 bucks is in the bag!!! “Kay, y’all we’ve going to hit the road in a 'mat o' minutes.” dad butted him self in to the car, while I rolled my eye's. Dad could never say anything right. And so we were on the road, going on a nice and snowy New York. We spent an hour getting this visa thingy right and 20 minutes to get on the plane..... Seriously, what’s so important about a photo? “Dad....... dad...... dad..... Pap..... Pap.... pap.... pappy.... pappy ….. Pappy.... man.... man... ma-”“Shut up!” I hollered into my brother’s ear.  He took no notice of me and carried on with what max's do. I loved air planes; they can hold so much yet can fly as light as a feather.Yeah, sure, you could say I was kind of a tom- boy but I don't really care. That night I dream about us flying as a family, that included me, dad, max and...... Mum.Mum died of breast cancer 2 years ago and our family still hasn't got over it completely.I miss her, we all do …. Especially Max, he was really close to her. “We slept  ... Until the plane made a mid stop in San Diego. We got off and had a snack. Suddenly an announcement came saying that our flight was going off in 2 minutes!!  We rushed to get to the gate way, but then Max fell, leading me to stop and help him, by the time he was up on his feet....... our plane had gone and Dad was no where to be found.
