Fireworks are a Fourth of July tradition. To celebrate our nation’s independence, many Americans will gather at professional fireworks events, while others will choose to hold a personal pyrotechnics extravaganza in their own backyard. Before lighting the first fuse on that bottle rocket or Roman candle, ensure you know the guidelines for the safe and responsible use of fireworks. As a young Soldier, I was not someone you would naturally point out as the “next accident.” I did what I was supposed to do and stayed out of trouble. This mindset suited me well as a young motorcyclist. The demands of a combat environment can be incredibly stressful. You don’t need to add to them by including self-induced stress in the equation. I should have kept that in mind when I scheduled an important task for the end of a long duty day. Going on leave, pass or TDY?
