Story of Saint Patrick

Page 3: Justyna Bieńkowska

St. Patrick’s Day The

holiday commemorates the death

of St. Patrick, a missionary who converted

the Irish to Christianity in the 5th century. The legend has it that he banished all the snakes from Ireland, which is now considered just a metaphor for the triumph of Christianity. He is also said to have used a shamrock, a three-leaf plant, to explain the idea of the Holy Trinity to the people.

Anthem of IrelandSoldier's SongWe'll sing a song, a soldier's song,With cheering rousing chorus,As round our blazing fires we throng,The starry heavens o'er us;Impatient for the coming fight,And as we wait the morning's light,Here in the silence of the night, We'll chant a soldier's song. Soldiers are wewhose lives are pledged to Ireland; Some have comefrom a land beyond the wave.
