DRAPERY HISTORY

Curtains first used to cover cold walls & open

doorways to keep the heat in.

In the Middle Ages, Cloth hung by metal rings on

ornate metal rods, then trimmed with braids &

tassels.

DRAPERY WEIGHT & Light UPHOLSTERY FABRIC

LENO (Twisted Open weave)

Construction for casement cloth (mesh weave) -warp yarns arranged

in pairs to twist one around the other making figure eight over filling

yarn -interlocking (chain) prevents yarns from slipping

origin: French lin -flax.

TAFFETA

Fine plain weave -looks the same on both sides (always reversible) -

firm construction gives the fabric a crisp feeling (hand)

origin: Persian taftan - to twist.

TWILL

Identified by diagonal ribbed lines in the fabric -origin: Scotch Twell -

to make a diagonal effect.

Pile : Use- Carpet or Towels

FIGURED VELVET -Pile

A velvet with pattern formed by contrast in cut and uncut loops -

partially cut pile with plain or figured background.

shuttle (single cloth, -top pick or filling and forming loop)

origin: French frise -curled.

type of operation, slant, glazing, weather stripping,

applied film (UV/ tint)

4. Type of energy efficiency for windows means single,

double or triple paned.
