DESCRIPTION

Middle school students (early adolescent: 11-14 years age group: 6th to 9th standard) are critical to this movement, as transformation requires minimum 10-15 years time. Schools can leverage student’s combined power of inherent vision, power of their personal and professional goals, power of reticular cortex in the human brain and impact of student’s adolescent biological changes (independent, social, emotional and meta cognitive skills) to develop leadership trait

I2i Thinking Movement Big Picture

Think Big: Dream High - Develop India as one of the Innovative Countries in the World by 2025

On the contrary, India’s overall Innovation Ranking (GII) is consistently dipping - 41th (2009), 56th (2010), 62nd (2011), 64th (2012) and 66th (2013)

Futuristic Countries primary focus is on “Human Capital Formation” and “Create Individual Brands”

Develop Next Gen “Glocal” Innovative Leaders to position India top 25: ”Global Thinking: Local Action”

Early Adolescent (age group 11-14 years)-Middle School Students are critical as they determine future India 2025

Why Early Adolescent Students (11-14 Age Group)?

i2i thinking movement

Individually, start growing independence and begin to see others point of view -right time to streamline thoughts

Biological changes impact cognitive, social and emotional lives. At this age, child aggression has to be transferred to positive ideas, creative ideas, projects for good, contribution to society

Leverage the power of Reticular Cortex in the human brain in collaboration of Power of clear vision and goal

Reticular Cortex in human brain reacts to the CONTENT in the brain but not INTENTIONS.

i2i thinking movement mission is to seed the specific goal and keep it as CONTENT in the brain for 3-4 years. In this process, chances of succeeding one’s own vision is high.

Key Stakeholders in this Mission Project

i2i thinking movement

•Participate in vision / goal setting, spend 5 hours per week for personal goal achievement and log the progress in the dairy on weekly basis•Read one inspiring story per week

Students

Schools

Parents

•Committed time for vision setting, goals tracking, provide time for story reading and dairy reporting

High-level Implementation Plan

i2i thinking movement

School doesn’t require to alter

existing academic

curriculum+

Sports Curriculum

This methodology take every student go through 4 steps- 1. Get Inspired 2. Made to Think 3. Be Creative 4. Be Innovative. Every step is personal. Individual experiences it!

Being structured methodology, results are not accidental. Provides opportunity to student to self-measure the performance in his own domain choice

Weekly journal or dairy reporting impacts individual consciousness

Student selects his/her

area of Interest

(Self Work for 5 hours per week and Dairy Reporting for

10 minutes per week)

School provides an

opportunity to read one

inspiring story per week

School celebrates

progressive work done by

students (every quarter)

Detailed Plan

i2i thinking movement

Student selects one area of interest outside his/her class work and sports work (e.g. agriculture, healthcare, environment, politics, technology, legal, culture, art, science, sociology, philosophy, spirituality etc)

Student spend 5 hours per week in the chosen area in the form of NEWS Collection, Writing Letters to field experts (appreciation, questioning, suggestions, guidance), Conduct Mini experiments, Conducting Surveys and Reporting, Group Discussions, Develop Short Films, Essay Writing, Debates, Quiz, Volunteering, etc) Student spend 10 minutes per week for reporting his / her progress (positive work or challenges faced ) in the form of weekly dairy and get it reviewed by teacher

Student reads inspiring story from any field or read biography or autobiography of one achiever or role model

Every quarter school celebrates progressive students work and report it in the magazine form or school website.

Hypothetical Situation Mr. Abhiram , 6th Std. , Global High School

Mr. Abhiram is studying 6th Std. in Global High School, VSP. His father is working in public sector and family belongs to middle class. Parents are aspiring for his seat in IIT and asking him to be serious in mathematics, physics and chemistry.

However, Mr.Abhiram’s view point is different. Abhi respects his parent’s wish but he wants to go through different route. He wants to understand subject and apply it in real life scenario. He is interested in practical experiments in the area of plumbing especially designs. Though he doesn’t understand terms like customer experience, value for money, quality etc but all his thoughts support the customer philosophy. He started designing different water taps to save water, experience more fun and utilize or save less water resources.

He created vision for his life. He wants to become designer in plumbing area so that he contributes towards his enthusiasm towards design and environment, save water through his innovative tap designs. This is his professional vision. He loves god and believes in spirituality, man can do little. He loves painting and gives aesthetic views his own tap designs. He loves to be with family.

Hypothetical Situation Mr. Abhiram , 6th Std. , Global High School

Abhi beautifully derived goals from his vision. He listed key terms of his vision statement : Design, Plumbing, Save water, God consciousness, painting, family.

He set few goals from these key terms; Want to visualize various designs, understand and design in plumbing sector (6th -12th std)- This

year go through 50 designs and develop 10 new designs for middle class families- (continuous/moving goal)

Want to do Btech from some engineering college wherever design study is available (doesn’t matter whether it is from IIT or Non-IIT, but design must).- medium term goal (event goal)

Want to study about water, water sources so that this consciousness helps in design as well. Contribution towards environment (continuous/moving goal)

Spend time in understanding about scriptures and develop positive consciousness for eternal benefit. This gives more peace and strength (continuous/moving goal)

Though he doesn’t want to be painter, once in a while he does painting. This gives only happiness. – not a goal (but goal enabler)

He loves his family. He enjoys spending with family and receive their love and affection (goal enabler)

Hypothetical Situation Mr. Abhiram , 6th Std. , Global High School

i2i thinking movement @ Vizag

Abhi started tracking his 4 goals and spending time with his 2 enablers. He started spending more than 3-5 hours in design, god consciousness and water.

Automatically, his studies improved due to less distractions and more focused in his goals. He started enjoying his studies. He is happier at both home and school as his view point is valued positively by friends and family.

After 7 years, Abhi completed his intermediate. He didn’t get through in IIT but got seat in National Institute of Design. As he already practiced design in plumbing, from first year itself he started participating in various design contests. In the second year, he started submitting proposals to various toiletry companies. In the 3rd year, one of his proposal got liked by Japanese company, offered him 20000 dollars and Design manager job. He passed engineering without much struggle but he is not topper in the class. He doesn’t want to be book warm and rote learner.

As he practiced spirituality from the adolescence, he took ups and downs in life equally. Once his health got deteriorated, dented his career progression,

Page 11: Inspire to Innovate (i2i) Thinking Movement @ Schools of India

Hypothetical Situation Mr. Abhiram , 6th Std. , Global High School

but his spiritual trait helped him to balance emotions. His painting skill and family association helped in recovering from this imbalance.

Occasionally Abhi participated in environmental concern activities and contributed towards social upliftment.

Abhi’s parents understood that getting seat in engineering through academic means is not real goal setting. Through his son’s example, they realized that one should focus on domain and sustain enthusiasm to understand particular problem in that domain. This process automatically gives best direction in terms of what to study, what not to study, how to approach towards goal if not how to handle the situation etc.

Key lessons from this situation Goal should not be some academic event like getting rank in IIT. This will not make somebody successful .

Infact ,it pains more as we will not have requisite skills, energy and strength to sustain that momentum Goal should be related to particular problem. Education is enabler and help directing toward solution.

Education is mere event in life but not everything!
