What is IP ?• An Internet Protocol (IP) address is a

numerical identification (logical address) that is assigned to devices participating in a computer network utilizing the Internet Protocol for communication between its nodes.

IPv4• IPv4 uses 32-bit (4-byte) addresses,

which limits the address space to 4,294,967,296 = (2^32) possible unique addresses .

Ex: 192.168.1.1

IPv4 Problems1) Random distribution of IP

IPv4 Problems2) Using NATUsing NAT to enable multiple hosts on a private network to access the internet using a single public IP

NAT Public IPAddress

IPv4 Problems3) Increasing the number of Users

The number of internet users increases continually , on the other hand the number of IPv4 addresses is constant

ICANN IPv4 Addresses

4.3 Billion IPv4 addresses are running out

Because all of this problems….

IPv6 has come

IPv6 features 1) The organized destribution of addresses
