WHEN (WHY NOW?)• Governor Provides Cost Savings for California College Students, Signs Digital

Textbook Legislation

• Connecticut Governor Signs Bill Creating State-Wide Electronic Book Delivery

System

• Illinois Governor Signs Digital Textbook Legislation (SB 3547)

• North Carolina Gov. Pat McCrory signs digital learning bills into law. The

General Assembly plans to shift funding to digital textbooks and other

instructional materials across the state by 2017

• Senators Franken and Durbin Introduce the Affordable College Textbook Act

(SB 1704) aims to reduce or even eliminate the cost of college textbooks

through implementing digital open source textbooks.

• Today, two pieces of legislation authored by Senator Mimi Walters (R-Irvine),

SB 185 and SB 234, were approved by the Legislature and sent to the desk of

Governor Jerry Brown. Senate Bill 185 increases access to K-12 digital

instructional materials

• Alabama Ahead Act for digital textbooks Signed By Governor Bentley to create

a $100 million bond issue that would be used to buy e-textbook computers for

students in Alabama's public high schools.

• New Texas legislation Promotes Growth of Digital Textbooks with House Bill

4294

• Maryland Governor’s budget includes a $3.5 M Digital Learning Innovation

Fund to provide resources to local school districts to accelerate their

conversion to comprehensive digital learning environments.

• NY Governor Cuomo proposed the Smart Schools Bond Act as part of his FY

2015 Executive Budget proposal. The Smart Schools Bond Act would provide

New York students with the digital tools, resources and skills they need to

compete and succeed in the digital age global economy.
