How to write the best possible Essay Introduction

o Define/ explain key words from the question o State that pomo is difficult to define but do offer a possible definition o State what your central argument is (if the question does not specifically

ask for one take a position anyway!) o Briefly mention which theorists and concepts you will be referring to o Briefly explain which case studies you will be using.

The Body of the Essay

o Make at least four clear and different points (one should be a counter argument/ example)

o Refer to a range of media forms (film, TV Drama, Sitcom, Music, Music videos, Documentary, Video Games, Social Media) Three is a good guide. You don’t have to talk about them all.

o Refer to a range of case studies – three is the minimum o Discuss three theorists (eg Strinati, Baudrillard, Goodwin, Lyotard,

Jameson, Derrida, etc) o Discuss three ‘concepts’ (eg Media Language, Representation, Ideology,

Parody, Intertextuality, Audience etc) o Talk about the Past/Present/ Future of Pomo. o Use more recent examples (from the last five years) o Have an example in EVERY paragraph o Use key terms and phrases from the question o Discuss the possible criticisms of pomo. o Use a range of terms (and explain briefly what they mean)

Conclusion

o Restate you central argument and explain how you have proved that your ideas are correct!

o Acknowledge there could be a possible alternative view – your counter argument

o Refer back to the key terms and phrases from the question
