HOW MY RESEARCH AND TARGET AUDIENCE FEEDBACK HAS HELPED DEVELOP MY THRILLER OPENING SEQUENCE.

Codes and Conventions Throughout the course so far I believe I have learnt a large

amount, for instance the codes and conventions that are essential to produce a perfect thriller genre movie. These would include guns, shadows and low key lighting ect. Without codes and conventions it would be hard to categorise what genre the movie went in to.

Sound Through research I have also learnt that sound(diegetic and

non-diegetic) is a massive impact and effect when producing the opening sequence, as it helps create an environment for the audience. However sound must be specific because it has to be able to mix with what is playing on screen for the audience to feel more enticing.

My opening sequence doesn’t include much dialogue so that we were able to include more sound.

Narration Narrative is important too, to make sure that the audience

understand what the plot is in the film or opening sequence. This is why my group will try to make the opening sequence as easy as possible to understand.

My group were able to understand how to make it comprehensible whilst we were at the BFI questioning the public on how to do so. We want to try and make Rhydian look as if he is simple-minded and very moronic so he can be scared easily.

Character Common character in the opening sequence could be the

hacker after the main character who is Rhydian. However we’d like to conform the codes and conventions by not revealing the hackers face, so it creates anonymity.

We’d like to give impressions to the audience of what the main character is like as soon as the opening sequence starts so they can understand him better.

The joker can be an example as we get to know him very well, pretty much from the start of the movie.

Camera shots Shots are important as I have learnt, when showing the

opening sequence you need to display a range of shots in it. This can be done to prove your knowledge of shots that you would like to convey in the opening sequence.

Camera shots are also very important, this is because if you’re repeating the same shot constantly in the opening sequence, the audience will start to find it tedious and not entertaining.

Title The title is also essential as it needs to catch the audiences

eye and make them remember it. If so they will be interested from the very start if the title is bold, vibrant (thriller themed) and big.

Also from my research titles for thriller are important so that they link to the thriller aspect, for example it needs to be red so it can depict the blood that is included in it.

EVALUATION

After researching all these aspects, I believe they have helped influence my choices that I have made on my opening sequence. As well as the audience feedback that I received will help my group and me massively on determining choices.
