HISPANICS, HIGH SCHOOL DROPOUTS AND THE GED
By: Miryam Hernandez
Only about one in ten Hispanics drop out of High School.
A High School diploma allows students to attend local colleges and sometimes attend local Universities.
Annual earnings remain the same for Hispanics with or without a GED.
Even though Hispanic young men remained employed, women were likely to graduate and receive their bachelor’s degree.
Compared to the Black students, Hispanics have a higher rate for graduating.
Foreign-born Latinos are more likely to drop out of High School than native-born Latinos.
This may be due to the inability to tame the English language.
As compared to the past, more Hispanics are graduating High School and receiving their GED.
