Henri Cartier-Bresson was a French photographer

He was considered to be the father of modern

photojournalism

He mastered candid photography and developed “real-life reportage” or “Street Photography”

Henri was born into a wealthy family: his father

was a textile manufacturer

Henri first photojournalism photos were published in 1937. H covered the coronation of King George VI for the French weekly.

Importance to Photography

Henri was important to photography for many reasons

He invented “Street Photography” He also re-invented Photojournalism Cartier-Bresson achieved international

recognition for his coverage of Gandhi’s funeral in India in 1948 and the last stage of the Chinese Civil War.
