Welcome to Grade Two! • Thank you for coming to Parent/Teacher Partnership Conferences.

• Thank you for signing up as volunteers at the parent coffee morning.

• Thank you for coming to school today.

• We have had a great start to the year.

The Teachers• Ms. Moon-Grade 2 Aqua• I am Korean and is ISSH alumni. This will be my 5th year teaching at

ISSH as a second grade homeroom teacher. My passion is to teach reading and writing to young students. I look forward to an exciting school year with lots of learning for my students and for myself as well.

• Ms. Stevens-Grade 2 Orange• I am Australian and have enjoyed a varied 16 years of teaching. I have

been with ISSH for 4 years as a K4 teacher. This year I look forward to the challenges and rewards Grade 2 will bring.

• Every student will be given a day to talk in front of the class for two minutes, about news from around the world. (November)

• Please help your daughter to find a news worthy article to share with the class when it’s her turn.

Handwriting• K3 – Grade 4 are using the ‘Handwriting without Tears’

• Correct formation of all letters• Pencil grip• Neat handwriting• Cursive handwriting is taught in Grades Three and Four.

1) Taught using hands-on practical methods, emphasizing the use of manipulatives to each concepts.

Specials• P.E. shoes may be kept at school.• White Socks to be worn for P.E. and hair should be tied up in a simple fashion.

Homework• Homework is part of your child’s learning experience. It will review and

reinforce skills covered in class. • Students are to work independently and to seek help from you when

needed.

• Your daughter will receive a homework pack each Monday which consists of weekly homework tasks. We are hoping they learn to organize and manage their time efficiently and balance this with time for family and after school activities.

• 20 minutes of reading. Reading to be recorded in reading log.

• If you are away from school for an extended time students will be asked to record a daily journal and continue to read and enter these books into a log.

• No homework on weekends.

Weekly Homework• Spelling Words given on Monday. Spelling Test is on Friday. We will do activities in class with spelling words but please look over the words at home with your daughter.

• Reading Log is given on Monday and is due on Friday. (Leveled books sent home in October)

• The weekly homework pack is due each Friday.

Nut Free School• Please be mindful of the snacks and lunches you prepare – Some oils, chocolate, candy, and dressings may contain nuts. Please read labels.

• Please keep snacks healthy. Let’s make fruits and vegetables fashionable!

Birthdays & Treats• We sing Happy Birthday in class & in assembly.

• You may send in a simple treat e.g.: cupcakes, cookies. This is optional.

• Invitations brought to school must be for everyone.

Name Labels• Please label EVERYTHING. Clothing, socks, bags, lunch boxes, shoes, umbrellas, stationary, pencils…anything that comes to school. Use initials on small items.

• Many things go missing everyday that are unnamed and never find their way back.

• Lost items with name and grade level fare much better.

• No toys to be bought to school.

Plain and simple• Pencil cases, pencils, hair pieces and all stationary equipment should be plain and simple. Students can be quite distracted during work time by sparkly things.

Assembly• The first Grade Two assembly is on Monday November 8th

• 8:40am – 9am.

• Seats are provided for parents at the back.
