SOLVE IT!Here’s a Situation:
After Basketball Practice, Antonio ran home at a speed of 6 blocks every 30 minutes. His cousin Jalen left practice a half hour earlier and walked home at a speed of 3 blocks per 30 minutes.
The boys live together in an apartment with their aunt, 18 blocks from Spencer.
Will They Get Home at the Same Time?
Use a table to show their distance and time from when they left the gym to when they got home.
Show at least 3 sets of data values but not more than 7 in your table.

On-Your-Own
Will They Get Home at the Same Time?
Create a graph using the data from your table.
Make sure you plot the correct column on the x-axis and the correct one on the y-axis.
Make sure data markers on each axis are equally spaced apart.

Will They Get Home at the Same Time?
Try to find an equation that represents Antonio’s run home and an equation that represents Jalen’s walk home.
Use the slope-intercept form for straight lines for each equation: y = mx + b
Note that m = slope = (change in y-values)/(change in x-values)

EXTEND IT!Write All 3 Representations of This Problem in Your Interactive Notebooks, on a Single Page. Then, Use Either Method to Answer These Questions:
If Jalen & Antonio had to go to their grandmother’s house instead of their aunt’s after practice, and if grandma lived 27 blocks from Spencer, what time would each of them arrive there?
What if Antonio left the gym 1 hour after Jalen, and they were going to their grandma’s house. Who would get their first?
