Our updated digipak will also include a variety of colours. We realised that our old digipak did not would not look appealing to the audience, as the front and back cover told two completely different stories, with the front being a different colour and the back being another colour. Also, they had no link with one another and they just looked like two random unprofessional pictures. Although our new front cover image has different colours from the back side of the digipak, the two images still have a relationship, as they both symbolise love. The front cover does have a hint of green (green leaves), just so it does not look completely random.

Here is the digipak we created before, and the one we re-created after realising our errors:

Front cover:

We have decided to use the same front cover as we did in our original digipak. This is because the colours stand out and they can easily attract the audience because of its eye-catching features. The hue effect adds to this. His

facial expressions show that he is not too happy, just like his song lyrics show. However, his body language shows that he is quite laid-back. We have kept the background plain green, as it would be too over-powering if we added more details at the back, which would not look too attractive. We have typed the artist’s name on the front in a large, white-coloured font, because there is not much going on, and it is important for the audience to see the artist’s name as the very first thing, so that they know whose music this is.

Back side (before):

We realised that the bold writing was looking quite odd and “cartoonish” for our digipak. The text didn’t need to be bold, so that it could fit in with the image and background naturally and effortlessly.

Back side (after):

The new back side’s font has been changed as well as the size. It is not as stark and bold as the old one was. Furthermore, there are extras included in this, whereas the old one didn’t have any extras written on it.

The inside of our digipak (before):

the inside of our digipak had no relation to the music whatsoever. It looked random and an image of trees was not very pleasing or exciting to look at. We then replaced our idea with something else.

The inside of our digipak (after):

The torn rose represents the “torn up” feelings of the male performer, and his given-up hopes. It symbolises his state of mind, as he is clearly obsessed with the girl he claims he used to love, but his constant repetition of her shows how he still is obsessed over her. This shows how damaged he is from the inside, as he is trying to forget those feelings by moving on. the roses have been placed on a black floor deliberately, to contrast its colours and to make it stand out. We then added a filter on it from “Instagram” called “Slumber”.

We went into the studio and switched off all the lights and used the special effects lighting. We turned on two spotlights, so that they would focus on the centre of the floor, where the rose was placed. This would bring attention to the colours of the rose, and it would contrast with its background, the black floor.
