DESCRIPTION

Professor Stanley W. Samarasinghe has facilitated summer study programmes for Payson students in Sri Lanka starting in 2001. Until 2006 each summer he took a relatively large group of students for a three-week course on "Violent Conflict and Development" In more recent years he has facilitated a summer research internship programme for one or two Payson students who wish to undertake indepth research-oriented study in Sri Lanka. Eligibility: Graduate students from any discipline in the "Social Science" field broadly defined. Priority given to Payson MS/Ph.D. candidates and Law School students; Graduate students affiliated to other Programmes, Departments or Schools are also welcome to apply.

• Specific Study/Research area: to be decided in consultation with the Instructor

• Credits: Minimum 06 & maximum 09 depending on length of stay and volume of work

Logistics

• Time period to be spent in Sri Lanka: 8 to 10 weeks (actual dates flexible)

• You pay regular course fee to Tulane• All expenses (air ticket, board and lodging etc.)

are your responsibility.• Estimated cost: air ticket US-Sri Lanka-US ($1,500

to $1,800); Food & lodging in SL per day $20-$25; per week $200 (Room in private residence) – Talk with somebody who has taken the course
