Why to participate to Expo Milano

Expo Milano 2015 will be the most important international educational event in Italy in the future years: 20 millions of visitors in Milan

and 1 billion cybervisitors.

Education and edutainment is the aim of the Universal Expo under art.1 of the BIE, the

International Convention (1927) on universal expositions.

Key Objectives

1. DIALOGUE EXPOStimulate and guide a global multidisciplinary and multistakeholders dialogue on the universal challenge: “Is it possible to ensure sufficient, good, healthy and sustainable food for all mankind?We all know the answer is “Yes. How?”

2. COLLABORATIVE EXPOFacilitate collaboration, partnership and networking among the Expo Milano 2015 stakeholders - Participating Countries, International Organizations, Civil Society (including universities, …), business, individual participants – in addressing the universal challenges about human nutrition and also nurturing the enviroment as our fundamental source of subsistence.

Applying the theme to Expo Milano 2015

The theme will be developed in several modalities, languages and representations, in order to "feed and involve" the visitors.

Thematic Areas

Unique venues where the theme will be interpreted and narrated from widely different perspectives and where the visitors will experience the theme through exhibitions, installations, attractions and entertainement shows.

Thematic Itineraries

Itineraries based on the visitors’ preferences, providing them with the opportunity to choose from several possible visiting routes, and making them able to perceive and fully experience the thematic contents of the Expo.

Events

Events, debates and entertainment occasions (inside and outside the Exhibition space) to communicate the theme through culture, science, art, ...

Thematic Clusters

A journey into the world of "timeless" products (rice, coffee, spices, …), to discover their secrets, their production processes and taste their most important varieties thanks to their countries of origin.

Non Official Participants Procedures for Participation

*PARTICIPATION CONTRACT: signed with NOPs that require a specific Exhibition Space for the whole duration of the

event

*PARTICIPATION AGREEMENT: reserved for NOPS seeking to actively participate with a program before and during the

event but does not entail setting up and managing an Exhibition Space

*in this case the COMMISSIONER GENERAL shall retail the sole authority to approve all those requests

The Participation Agreement Expo 2015 – DBN

SCOPE•The Agreement defines modalities, terms and conditions on which DBN will participate to the Exhibition taking place in Milan, in line with the Theme of Expo 2015 [Art.1 co 1]

•The participation: different kinds of On-Site Events/Activities previously agreed by the Parties to be implemented in the Exhibition Site for a minimum period of 30 days [Art.1 co 2]

•The Events will take place in different areas within the Exhibition Site assigned by the Organizer according to the typology of events (ex. arena, theater, conference room, common spaces etc..)

SIGNATORIESExpo 2015 as Organizer and DBN as main responsible for the implemented activities. DBN can individuate an implementer and leading NGO (VIS), signatory of the contract as well, that will be the operational interlocutor for Expo 2015.

• Promote the Salesian carism in global education themes such the ones highlighted in the theme guide (Thematic itineraries, p.56):

food and nutrition inequalities, deprivation/shortage and abundance: the contemporary paradox; the future of food: science and technology – including vocational training and technical education in food production for food safety and quality; sustainable food = fair world: education to global citizenship; enviromental education; human rights education (i.e. freedom from hunger, indivisibility and interdependence of fundamental rights; promoting changes in attitudes and behaviors; international volunterism; children and youth participation; interreligious dialogue…

Promote learning experiences and awareness raising.

• Advocacy for:a) human rights based approach to food security and cooperation to

c) education and training as fundamental strategies to feed the planet;d) centrality of the person, development with a human face, olistic vision of

the poor not as a passive recipient of “aid” but as active subject of human development; indivisibility and interdependence of all human rights: civil, cultural, economic, political, social and spiritual dimensions matter;

e) children and youth active and meaningful participation to major international educational events such as Expo Milano 2015

Under DBN/VIS participation agreement signed the 11th October 2012 in Milan, we are committed to organized a minimum of 30 events around the theme: “Feeding the planet, energy for life” at Expo Milano to be held from 1 May to 31 October 2015.

We can also organize preparatory events anywhere in the world during 2013-2014-first 4 months of 2015 and side events in Milano (outside Expo 2015 site) or anywhere in the world during the period from 1 May to 31 October 2015.
