ESRI Story Map Construction
Steps in constructing an ESRI story map
• Decide on a theme• Take pictures• Upload pictures to computer• Create thumbnails• Upload pictures, standard size and thumbnail, to a public storage site• Construct CSV (comma separated variable) table• Access/prepare ESRI online map• Choose ESRI template• Join map and template• Add CSV to map/template • Add other media• Customize• Test run

• Bird Sanctuaries• Life of an historical figure• Art venues• Part of resume on personal website• Highlighting certain aspects of a campus

Upload photos to public photo sites
• Requirements – public and provides a URL for every photo• Note: you need to either geotag the photos the storage site or later
on the ESRI site. I found it easier to tag them on Flickr than on the ESRI site because on Flickr• Drop box• Google drive• Skydrive• Picasa • Flickr
Flickr
• Photo stream• Upload• Organize• Zoom in to desired extent• Add photos to general area• Edit – type in specific lat./long. coordinates
Construct CSV
• Excel – can be saved in CSV format
Access/prepare ESRI online map
• ESRI – Environmental System Research Institute• URL - http://storymaps.arcgis.com/en/• My example: https://www.arcgis.com/home/user.html?newUser=true• Click content• Click create map • Follow four steps for map creation
• Zoom to area• Choose basemap• Add layer – Ex. ArcGIS map of Shasta College• Save and share map
Choose ESRI template
• Click share above map
Join map and template
Add CSV to map/template
Add other media
Customize
Test run
