Deakin Username and Password

You use StudentConnect for:

• You will enrol yourself into units using StudentConnect

• The standard full-time enrolment is 4 credit points per Trimester excluding Trimester 3.

• The majority of units available are worth 1 credit point.

• So 8 credit points in a year normally means you will complete 4 units of study in Trimester 1 and 4 units of study in Trimester 2.

Choosing and Enrolling in your 2016 units

When you enrol online:-Ensure you get a receipt number-Ensure you insert your Tax File Number on your electronic Commonwealth Assistance Form (eCAF) so your fees are deducted appropriately.

• Search for Course Code e.g. A300 Bachelor of Arts • You will see the units for your course listed under this course outline.• Unless you have received credit for prior learning, you should enrol in level 1 units

Where do I find the units I can select?


• All units offered have a unit code e.g. AIR108

• Each unit code is made up of 3 letters and 3 numbers. The letters refer to the Faculty and discipline, and the first number indicates the level of the unit.

• All Arts unit codes begin with the letter A.

• All Education unit codes begin with the letter E.


Pre-requisites

• A number of studies are cumulative in knowledge, technical competencies, and research skills, so there are pre-requisites that direct students to take some units before others.

• If a unit you are interested in studying has a pre-requisite, it will be listed in the online handbook.

• You will not be able to enrol in a unit if you have not completed the pre-requisite unit first.


Dance

For students interested in enrolling into Dance units there will be Workshops for you to attend during ‘O Week’ Monday 29 February – Friday 4 March

Important Dates for Adding or Withdrawing from Units

Last day to add a unit for Trimester 1: 20th March 2016

Last day to withdraw from a Trimester 1 unit without penalty: 31st March 2016

After you enrol in units, you can create your own timetable for Trimester 1 in STAR .

(exact dates for class allocation will be updated on the STAR website –February 2015)

CloudDeakin

CloudDeakin is Deakin’s online teaching and learning environment. It uses online technologies:

1. To deliver course materials such as unit guides and lecture slides2. For communication between staff and students3. For communication between students within a unit

Credit For Prior Learning

• If you have completed previous studies from a recognised post-secondary institution, you may be granted credit for prior learning.

• The University will consider applications for credit for prior learning for qualifications completed up to ten years ago. To apply for Credit for Prior Learning (CPL) ensure you can complete an online CPL application form available at: http://www.deakin.edu.au/arts-ed/current-students/credit-for-prior-learning.php

You will need to include:Original academic transcripts and certificatesDetails of the structure/curriculum (including the level - e.g. Diploma, Bachelor, Masters) of the course you wish to base your application onFull unit/subject outline for all the units/subjects studied in your course.


CPL Application Deadline:

Timely applicants please note that applications for CPL MUST be submitted by Friday the 5th of February 2016 for a timely response before Trimester 1 2016 commences on Monday 7th of March 2016.

We will still accept applications after the 5th of February however we cannot guarantee that applications will be assessed in time for the start of Trimester 1.

It is highly recommended that you make an appointment with a Student Adviser once a year to ensure you are on track with your course.

Please note that the Faculty of Arts and Education will be running Information and Enrolment Sessions on some Courses and Campuses only, in late January/early February 2016.

You will be sent details closer to this time and will be invited to come along for assistance with the enrolment process and with your course information.
