Causes of young people under a lot of pressure to work hard in their studies

Nowadays, young people are cover by a layer of stress. They are under a lot of pressure in their study. This can be witness by the little leisure time they usually have. Young people are too busy of their studies until they have no time to play or enjoy their leisure time, even worse they have no time to have their meal. In this essay, I will discuss about the causes of young people under a lot of pressure to work hard in their studies. There are several causes to lead to this condition, pressure from the parents, financial restriction, and young people are being over competitive.

First, young people receive a lot of parental pressure. Most of the parents want their children to be successful, so they force their children to study very hard to get a good grade in the school. Parents put a high expectation on their children and this will exert more pressure on their children. As a result, young people nowadays have to spend more time on study at home. After come back from school, they have to deal will tons of homework and assignment and also need to attend extra tuition for three or four hours. Besides, the ‘KIASU’ (urbandictionary) attitude or attitude of ‘afraid to lose out’ or ‘do not bear to lose’ attitude from the parents will also exert a lot of pressure to young people. Parents tend to compare their children with other academically, so their children need to study hard to fulfil their parents’ expectation.If young people fail to score well in the exam, their parents will very disappointed to them and this will make them depress a lot.

Second, young people are facing a lot of pressure from financial restriction. Some young people are not so lucky to born into a wealthy family, their parents are just a worker in the industry or a labour in the construction, which are someone who cannot afford their expensive tuition fee. This lead to young people need to study hard and score well in the exam to get a scholarship to pay for their tuition or maybe cover part of their daily expenditure. In the same way, for those who were got their scholarship, they need to maintain their good grade to ensure they will get the money in the following semesters. So, study hard is the only solution for them. Besides, young people might not get a full scholarship, so its not enough to cover up their tuition fee, so they need to get a part time job. After starting working, they have no time to do revision for their study, but they still need to remain good grade to get

the scholarship, so they need to burn the mid night oil, to study overnight. They are struggling for both sides, study and money.

Third, young people nowadays are being over competitive. It’s not to say that it is a bad thing, but it will bring tons of pressure to themselves. Not only for parents, sometime, young people are also tend to have a ‘kiasu’ attitude, to compare their result to their friends. Hence they pressure themselves to study hard for get a better result than others. Just to show that , they are better, smarter and clever than their friends. As a consequence , peer pressure is one of pressure they are facing also. Your friends are better than you, so young people will force themselves to study hard and reach the same standard and level of his friend.

In conclusion, parental pressure, financial restriction, and being over competive are the causes of young people are under a lot of pressure nowadays, so I strongly recommend young people manage their time well to overcome the circumstance, change their attitude toward study and yet learn to study smart not only study hard.
