Collective noun- a noun that comprises several individuals but is considered as one group

Examples: family, class, jury, committee, audience, government, squad, flock, school

Rule: A collective noun requires a singular verb if it is regarded as one unit.

Examples:1. My class is an intelligent bunch.

2. The senate supports all of the president's decision.

Rule: However, when it is clear in the idea of the sentence that the members of the collective noun are acting as individuals, or are in disagreement, the collective noun should be regarded as plural; therefore, it should take plural verb.

Meanwhile, collective adjectives are adjectives preceded by the article "the". Rule: They are used as plural nouns and take a plural verb.Examples:1. Sadly, the rich get richer, while the poor have become poorer.
