EDITING – THE DECENT SCENE 2 THE CAR CRASH.

Brandon Wood

Editing pace – beginning.

The sequence leading up to the crash is very slow – moving and is a very calm setting with a normal conversation between Sarah, Annabel and Paul. It is set like this in order to make us feel relaxed, safe and unaware of what is about to happen.

In this scene the camera cuts back and forth between all three characters this shows you that all three characters are a big part of this scene and play an important part the camera switches depending on who is speaking or being spoken to.

At the end of the conversation scene the camera changes to another angle which is an over the shoulder view of the van this shows you the van approaching. The car starts to veer to the right towards the oncoming vehicle you immediately get the idea hat something is about to go wrong this increases are heart rate and makes us feel uneasy.

The Conversation

From a slow moving and calm setting were they was talking. To the peace of the entire chapter changing to fast pace there are also a range of fast camera changing views as you see the shocking heart racing scene as Paul gets a rod impale through his face. Again during this scene there are a variety of camera cuts that are only a second or two long each used to keep us, the audience, in horror as we first see the crash itself, and then the metallic poles that fly off the roof of the van towards the driver seat where Paul is currently sitting.

Within seconds of this shocking scene three major cut occurs that gives us the largest shock effect of this scene as we first watch the metal pole shoots straight through the window. The camera then cuts to the shoulder view of Paul as you see the pole flying towards his face the last camera scene shot three is when the camera cuts to the back of the chair as you see the pole impale the chair and Paul's face and you see the gush of blood that gushes out of the back of Paul's head.

The crash scene as a whole is horrifying and shocking but the three cut scenes divinity have a huge impact on the people watching the film mainly due to the thought of having a metal pole impale your face makes our imagination increase the true horrifying effects of this scene as Paul's impalement, the camera cuts again almost instantly to reveal that an area shot by of the crash scene and we see a second pole that went straight though the middle of the window inexactly the position of where Annabel was sitting this makes people wonder is she's ok? This is to be revealed in the next scene when Sarah wakes up this keeps people wondering and keeps them watching to see if Annabel is still alive.
