How does drawing and thinking relate?

• As child assimilates and accommodates schemes these are revealed through drawings

• Egocentrism-how it looks to me

• Decentration- shown from another point of view

The Problem• Is it possible to determine the stage of a

child’s development by having them draw a picture of a tree behind a house?

• Will children who are the same age be in the same stage of development?

Hypothesis

• Yes, it is possible to determine the stage of development.

• “Gifted” students will show more advanced stage of development than same age children in a regular class.

• Early basic forms stage is when children can draw oval or circle, curved line or arc made with the same swinging movement of an arm used in the early scribble stage

• The child practices these symbols, covering sheets of paper with many examples of the same subjects.

• Also at an early point in this stage, a child’s picture may be a collection of unrelated figures and objects.

• During this early pictorial stage, the child is searching for new ideas.
