February was dedicated to people with hearing problems and to deafness.
In the beginning of the month we had a skype meeting with the Primary School of
Potamia, Thassos. We introduced ourselves and we talked about our schools and our
cities. It was a great experience.
Our fist activity was to talk about hearing problems and deafness. We named the hearing
problems and we talked about the everyday life of a person with hearing problems or
totally deaf. We specifically discussed about the way those people communicate. So we
talked about sign language, and mostly about Greek sign language. We watched two
Greek songs, which are translated into the Greek Sign Language, as well:

In our second meeting we tried to learn some words in the Greek Sign Language and we
talked about the philosophy of the Greek Sign Language. We studied the Greek Sign
Alphabet and we learned how to spell our names. Then we learned some words about
everyday life (sports, foods, means of transportation, parts of the house, furniture,
professions etc). We played pantomime and we realized that the Greek Sign Language is
based on logic and is quite simply, as long as you think on your brain!

In our third meeting we downloaded a sign alphabet (from www.prosvassimo.gr) and we
created some cards for our friends in schools all around Greece. We send ten cards in sign
alphabet, one of them in Portugal and one of them in Turkey. In these cards we translates
the sign language into Portuguese and Turkish written language. We also prepared some
questions about an interview that we were about to take from a deaf teacher.
In our final meeting we had a skype meeting with the deaf teacher, Petropoulos Grigoris.
The children had prepared some questions for him, in sign language. They asked what
they had prepared and then, with our help, they asked him other questions that they had
just figured.
