Safeguarding the vulnerable by building understanding
According to the Alzheimer’s Research Trust there were over 820,000 people living with dementia in the UK in 2008, a number which is rising rapidly as the population ages. This engaging and interactive elearning course enables carers to understand what dementia is, the different forms of dementia and how others can have an impact on the individual with dementia.
The course maps completely to the following units of the Level 2 Diploma in Health and Social Care:
• Dementia Awareness (Unit sector reference: DEM 201)
• Understand and implement a person centred approach to the care and support of individuals with dementia (Unit sector reference: DEM 204)
(DEM 201 is a required unit for all learners undertaking the Level 2 Diploma in Health and Social Care in England through the Dementia Pathway and DEM 204 is one of the optional units.)

2.The Person Centred Approach
• Person centred care • Supporting others • Supporting a range of individuals • Interacting and communicating with individuals
Duration: 2.5 hours
Requirements: No prior knowledge of the care sector or IT skills needed.
Delivery: Accessed online via AIMS™ and also available for el-box™ or SCORM CD delivery
(AIMS™ is our Learning Management System, which is accessible from any internet capable PC with broadband connection. The el-box™ is a touch screen tablet PC pre-loaded with our elearning courses.)

Mapping to the Level 2 Diploma in Health and Social Care
MindLeaders and EDI have worked in partnership to map and accredit the course against the EDI Level 2 Diploma in Health and Social Care. Completion of the elearning modules enables learners to build their knowledge of the sector against the requirements of the qualification, and progress towards the full EDI Level 2 Diploma in Health and Social Care. EDI is accredited by the UK regulatory authorities to award over 370 vocational qualifications and quality assure over 400 training programmes.
Mapping to the National Occupational Standards
The “Dementia Awareness” and “Understand and implement a person centred approach to the care and support of individuals with dementia” units have been developed by Skills for Care and Development in partnership with Awarding Organisations. They provide a key progression route between education and employment (or further training leading to employment). They are directly relevant to the needs of employers and relate to the National Occupational Standards developed by Skills for Care and Development.
