DESCRIPTION

Cool Globes: Hot Ideas for a Cooler Planet, is a public art exhibition designed to raise awareness of solutions to climate change. Cool Globes grew out of a commitment at the Clinton Global Initiative in 2005, and was incorporated as a non-profit organization in 2006. Since that time, Cool Globes premiered in Chicago and went on tour across the country from Washington DC to San Francisco, San Diego, Sundance, Los Angeles, Houston and Cleveland. In the fall of 2009, Cool Globes opened the first international exhibit in Copenhagen. From there our globes were in Geneva, Marseille, Vancouver, and Amsterdam. It is our hope that the millions of people who have experienced the exhibit, leave with a vast array of solutions to climate change, and with one clear message….we can solve this.

Food for ThoughtMuriel Napoli

Do you love oranges and other delicious fruits and vegetables? You

can make an environmental difference with a greener diet. Avoiding meat just

once per week can help. It takes far more fossil fuel energy to generate the same amount of protein from a meat

source than from a plant source.

Leave a Positive FootprintCathi Bouzide

Page 6: Cool globes exhibition

A carbon footprint is defined as the amount of carbon dioxide (CO2) released as a result

of your daily activities. Your lifestyle choices, household energy usage, and

transportation methods will affect the size of your footprint.

Wherever we live, trees also have a

profound impact on our day-to-day

lives. In addition to beautifying our neighborhoods,

trees cut down the need for air

conditioning and clean globe-

warming CO2 from the air. Every time we plant a tree, we

help create a healthier

environment.

Green TechnologyRobert Chambers

The colors on this globe indicate the imminent threat of global

warming. Green landmasses symbolize the potential for change – the more green a

continent, the more environmentally aware its

inhabitants. Red masses are the most vulnerable, indicating the need to advance environmental

awareness.

Let your voice be heardPaula Clayton

Page 12: Cool globes exhibition

Global warming may feel like an overwhelming challenge, but this

artist seeks to demonstrate that every individual has a voice, and by joining hands and raising our voices together

we can help fight global warming.

Water ConservationSharon Bladholm

Page 14: Cool globes exhibition

Water is a valuable commodity, especially in this region of the world. Water conservation is the most

reliable and least expensive way to stretch water resources. Low volume agricultural irrigation

systems, such as drip-irrigation and micro-sprinklers, can increase efficiency to 90%.

Solar PowerAlice Sharie Revelski

Solar energy is one of the most promising renewable energy

sources in the world. It is non-polluting, works anywhere the sun is shining, and allows users

to generate their own power quietly and safely.

Reduce, Reuse RecycleMitch Levin

Why not strive for “zero” waste, only purchase products that can be recycled or reused and

reduce our trash by composting and recycling.

Heal the PlanetMr. Imagination

We turn to nature for the essentials that sustain us–fresh air, clean water, and

nutritious food. We can protect nature and enjoy its bounty by preserving

green spaces, using sustainable high-yield agriculture techniques and

practicing eco-conscious consumption.

need the water you drink and are carbon-free!

Green Transportation

Lee Strickland

Saving time and money makes sense. Doing what we can to cool down

the planet makes sense too. Public transportation is an easy way to cut the globe-warming carbon emissions produced by

driving while avoiding the waste and frustration of traffic jams.

Green schools

Kids working together in the classroom, playground and cafeteria can help prevent global

warming by reducing waste, recycling, saving energy and conserving water.

It’s your planet—spend time in school learning to take care of it!

Lighting the Way to Change

Peter Mars

A new generation of bright halogen bulbs uses half as much carbon dioxide-emitting energy as incandescents. Emerging LED lighting alone could save 10% of worldwide electricity consumption.

When you change a bulb, will you make it a change for the better?

Fuel Efficient TravelVincent Grech

Each liter of gas a car burns puts 2.5 kg of carbon dioxide into the air. New

technologies, like hybrid cars, take fuel efficiency to an even higher level. And

it’s not just what you drive; it’s how you drive! When you are behind the wheel, you can reduce the amount of carbon dioxide your car produces by keeping

your speed down.

Green RoofsIngrid Albrecht

A “green roof “ is both a roof and a garden.

Traditional roofs absorb heat , raise city temperatures ,increase pollution and

require extra energy to cool and irrigate. In contrast, cities with green

roofs experience lower air temperatures and energy costs , less storm water runoff and improved air

quality.

Listen to our Children

Ingrid Albrecht

They are young, but wise. Children’s voices can be heard around the world in a multitude of languages, all speaking the

same message: Stop global warming! This globe displays

artwork sent in by children around the world and illustrates

their ideas for solving global warming.

Global LeadershipSandra Bacon

The William J. Clinton Foundation and the world’s largest cities joined forces to fight global warming. In

this globe, the artist identified the cities in this program and illustrated the ripple effect they are having around

the globe.
