TemperatureWhat is temperature?
Temperature is how hot or cold it is. Temperature is measured using

The cold colours, like purple, blue and white show areas where the temperature is less than 8˚ Celcius, and very cold
The warm colours like red, yellow and orange show warmer areas
The warmest areas are found along the south-west coast. Valentia Island, County Kerry has the highest annual mean temperature, at 10.4 °C
Rainfall Rainfall is measured using a rain gauge A rain gauge it works by collecting
rainfall falling into a funnel above the ground
The unit of measurement is millimetres, or mm

Who records our weather? Met Eireann is the body responsible for
recording the weather in Ireland. They have set up over 30 recording
stations around Ireland, where the temperature, rainfall and wind speed are recorded daily
Meteorologists The name of the people who record and
study this weather, is meteorologists. They study the atmosphere and read
satellite images to predict the weather, we see on the news.
