It is absolutely no denial that the world has gone digital. The digital landscape has taken over our lives in such a extent that we can’t imagine ourselves away from the tech buzzes which are constant in our lives. Right from a simple wrist watch to music system, television, mobile, PC, washing machine and all the fancy gadgets we love to own, it wouldn’t have been possible without the future development and constant innovation in the area of Information Technology.

In 1980s, Information technology merely meant computers but now as mentioned above this concept and indeed the technology has been taken to almost all the devices which we can possibly imagine.

There are millions of individuals who are highly educated, well trained, very well specialized and are working round the clock in companies which are redefining the future for us. Right from space exploration to banking services and video games – these ‘IT people’ as they are known to lay man is designing possibilities all the time.

So, before dwelling into the career options with a degree in information technology, let’s look at what it takes to get into the degree program of Information Technology.

First and foremost, you should have subjects like Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry in your class 12th examination. This makes you eligible to appear for all India examinations conducted to get entry into various top engineering colleges in India. These competitive examinations are surely tough but a strategic preparation will help you in getting a good score and finally get admitted into a top engineering college in the country. Depending upon the rank you get in India level competitive examinations and also the independent state level competitive examinations which are conducted by various states say Maharashtra; you will be able to take admission in the course of your choice. Considering the popularity of information technology among the students, you will have to score considerably higher in the examination(s) in order to get the stream you want.

India is the back office of world and hence India manages the entire information technology backbone of the world. Working in comfortable settings has attracted more and more students towards information technology and hence there is ‘n’ number of institutes offering this program. And here you need to be cautious. A degree just for the sake of it won’t pay you any dividends. However, the ones from leading engineering colleges will open all the doors!

A successful completion of the bachelor’s degree in Information technology should immediately allow you to attach yourself with MNCs and other great Indian start-ups who are doing cutting-edge work in the work. And you will only go places once you get your hands dirty continuously.

My recent visit to Maharashtra helped me change my perspective. There are considerable amount of top engineering colleges in Maharashtra. Nashik offers a very good option too. It can very well boast India’s best engineering college. With absolutely modern, eco-friendly buildings sprawling over 200+ acres of lush green campus with fast Wi-Fi, ultra modern lecture theaters, laboratories and well furnished hi-tech residences for boys and girls took me on a sci-fi ride. The cafeteria with sumptuous meals, faculties with master and doctorate degrees, heavy focus on industry-institute interactions, tons of guest lectures are some of the goodies being offered. This is essentially changing the way IT education has always been thought. The focus on learning by doing, learning from peers as well as from professors obviously is the prime area. Apart from this, huge focus on team-work, leading the team understanding team dynamics is being done to make the graduates industry ready. Industry heavy weights sit with curriculum designers to provide their inputs on knowledge and skills required for tomorrow.

It can be inferred with a lot of confidence that paradigm shift in IT education design and delivery has begun and while no one is watching and realizing, a power, dynamic India is emerging which will be ready with appropriate knowledge and skills to‘re-engineer’ the 21st century which belongs to Asia in which India will be playing a major role.
