• Listen to the sounds in shot.

• Stretch the sounds /shshsh/ /ooo/ /t/ as you write sh, o, t.

• Point to each letter and say the sounds again.

• Now listen as I change /o/ sound in the middle of shot to /or/; /sh/ /or/ /t/, short.

• Point to each letter and say the sounds with me.

• You can now read words like pot and shot.

• The o in pot and shot has the short vowel sound.

• Lets look at some words that has an o followed by the letter r. What sound will these words have?

• Write the letters or for /or/.

• As you write, say the sound to yourself.

• Now say the sound aloud.

• When the letter o is followed by an r, the o has the r-Controlled sound: /or/.

• Lets try some examples

Remember if a word has an e at the end, the e is slient.
