Our guiding principle:

to make your life easier and your

students lives easier in your courses

Quantitative figures How Many Students are Learning Online?

7.1 million students taking at least one online course.

Factors Influencing a Learner’s Decision to Drop-Out

Figure 1 Adapted from Bandura’s Reciprocal Causation Theory

The proposed model should undergo statistical testing to ensure all factors are reliable and a good fit for testing online student attrition.

However, the factors included in this model are consistently cited in research on online attrition factors.

SOLUTION - General course housekeeping: - check links to make sure they are not dead (and include full URLs so

students can copy/paste on their own)

- make sure folders/assignments/quizzes are open when they are supposed

to be

- be clear with students about where to find things in the course

- use file types that are compatible with both PCs and macs

Student questions

Can you help me open this file?

What kind of file is it?

SOLUTION - Standard file naming conventions for

submitting assignments would help keep people organized. - i.e. student's last name, course, and assignment name

- file types (.doc, .docx, .rtf, etc.)

Can you help me open this file?

What kind of file is it?

Blackboard Migration Checklist

1. Remove any

unnecessary assignments

from your course.

During migration, all activities will be

added to your Grade Center and may

difficult or impossible to remove. While

they can be deactivated and

hidden, it is recommended that you clean these out

instead to keep your course clean and

running smoothly.

2. Remove subtitles

on your folders and activities.

Revise your titles to be descriptive of the content and activities.

3. Change Surveys to tests (assessments)

4. Customized icons do not migrateNeed to double check on this for safekeeping. Be sure to save your icons.

5. External linksExternal links will only migrate if they are embedded in text, if they were added any other way such as the ANGEL “link” button shown below, they will not migrate.
